My suggestion would be to not duplicate the module, if the functionality stays
the same and just the internal implementation is different. We would probably
end up with two modules, as people would not switch because of inertia. The
"old" one would be still get fixes and improvements, we can not deprecate it
anymore, and we duplicated the maintenance effort for it.
