THE FIVE AGGREGATES - I2
A Study Guide
The Questions
♦ 1. "There are some cases in which a person overcome with pain, his mind
exhausted, grieves, mourns, laments, beats his breast, & becomes bewildered.
Or
one overcome with pain, his mind exhausted, comes to search outside, 'Who
knows
a way or two to stop this pain?' I tell you, monks, that stress results either
in bewilderment or in search."
Explanation: The Lord Buddha explains that there is a case where someone is
overcome with ( mental and/or physical) pain, their mind is exhausted,
grieves,
mourns, laments, beats their chest with their hands and becomes
confused in mind. There is another case when someone is overcome with
( mental and/or physical) pain, with the mind exhausted starts to
search for an answer to stop the pain. The Lord Buddha says that
stress/suffering (dukkha) results in either mental confusion or in search for
an
answer to end it.
− AN 6.63
♦ 2. Both formerly & now, it is only stress that I describe, and the cessation
of stress."
Explanation: The Lord Buddha says that both before and now he was and is only
concerned with teaching the nature of suffering/stress
(dukkha) and the ending of it.
