Ahem. You're not using telnet to do this (as in telnet <host> 22) are
you? If so, then you'd see what your seeing...
Technically, you could make it work[1] ... If you were seriously good at
doing cryptographic techniques in your head :>
However, most of us mere mortals just use the 'ssh' client program.
as in:
ssh -l <username> <host>
rather than using telnet. man ssh (naturally) for more info.
