Mike- IIRC, when you posted earlier, you had output that indicated that `collect2' was core'ing in one spot. Is it possible that it's also core'ing when the link tests are being done by configure? What I'm asking is, "What's in config.log"? That should tell us a lot about why things aren't working correctly for you.
