OK, I finally got the compile to work. I had to edit config.status to add libraries. This time, I added just the minimum I thought might work: -lresolv, -lk5crypto and -lcom_err. Then I ran ./config.status, followed by make and it worked. I don't know why I had some of my earlier problems when I tried making similar changes. In any case, clearly configure is not doing the right thing when it comes to building the library list in the make files. Now it remains to be seen what problems I encounter when I actually try to run the stuff!
