I would like to have brakes for my Aster Alisan Shay. Why would I want brakes? I hope to install RC either on the Alisan Shay or if I get a Roundhouse SR&Rl #24. My layout oval has mild 1% grades. My branch line has 6% grades, which is not a problem up hill. The downhill speed capabilities of steam engines are impressive, complete with airborne cars if one thinks setting the throttle low and the Johnson bar inefficient.
Has anyone ever built brakes into a loco?
