Chris.

I hope all Accucraft C-16s are the same. Mine is a 268 Black. The 278
is the same. These engines have a plug on the boiler back head which
was to be connected with a hand pump in the tender. The holes for the
pump were drilled and fitted with screws and the fittings were on the
tender front wall, but no pump! I removed this plug from the backhead
bush (thread M5x0.5) fitted a Ralph Reppingen (Germany) clack valve
into the bush and that's it finished. (choose your own valve supplier)

The amount of cold water which is being pushed in by eg. an axle pump
is not enough to be noticed. I would suggest a second gas tank in the
cab connected to the main tank with a snap connector this way you
increase the gas supply to match your extended run and at the same time
always have warm gas. Fill the tender larger gas tank only after
connecting to the cab tank. The cab tank naturally to the burner.
All of this work can be done on the kitchen table and leaves the
engine so that it can be returned to its original condition at any
time.

Hope this is of help.

Regards
Bert, in the wet snowy alps.
