One time my wife dragged me into an antique shop. (I don't know why she
wanted antiques when she has me.) On one of the shelf units for sale there were

three volumes of an encyclopedia of mechanical engineering published in 1912. I
asked the woman who was running the store if they had any more volumes and
she found all 12 volumes which I purchased immediately. There are sections on
locomotives, ship engines, machine tools, manufacturing processes,
automobiles and even wood building construction. Great information for me when
making
tools in my shop, laying out a valve gear and just fun reading how it was done
back in the early years of last century. (When building a house with stud
walls, they showed studs mortised into the bottom and top plates. WOW!)
