Souonds like the primary configuration is just wrong. What's the console selector on the loader menu say? The "primary" console gets userland+kernel, secondary gets kernel. I've had some prototypes to fix this, but they all sucked.
boot_multicons=YES, boot_serial=YES is the configuration you likely want. Thanks, Kyle Evans
