Make whatever changes to said system.

If you like them, that's fine.  Eventually (when fully satisfied) destroy the old one.

If not you can revert right back to where you were with one command and a reboot.

It is NOT a small consideration (if you properly partition things vis-a-vis user and system stuff) when contemplating some sort of change or upgrade to the system.
