We do this in the below way :

<message type="chat"
to="jid"><thread>38632DAB-0E5F-4F9C-9F5B-D0DA6CB07688</thread><x
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]/thread%3E%3Cx>
xmlns="private:emot"><emot>emot-shout.au</emot></x></message>

This 'll give a buzz + play the au file at the other side. Another is, we
dont send <body> in this message because already a chat is going and we just
want to play the sound and give a window shake.

thanx

To some extent though I'd like to know if I prod someone whose client
claimed
to support the feature, and for some reason they don't get prodded.

On the other hand you can solve the same problem by telling some users you
support it and other users you don't. So those other users don't even get
the button in the first place.
