Just to give you an idea, I thought having a table like this:
Icon | Name | Codes | Description < An example smilie > | tongue | :P or :-P | A smilie showing its tongueIf there's interest, I'll try to create a XEP defining a basic list of smilies that a client SHOULD implement - it's free to implement more than that. That would get some consistency into emoticons among XMPP clients. The XEP could also specify optional smilies that many clients implement, but aren't really necessary.
