As has been said, a separate namespace is a more in the spirit of XML.
It would need no modification to existing specifications. On the other
hand, it adds a lot of unnecessary data. As a programmer, I say
namespace. As a user of mobile devices, I say attribute. Since the
whole point of sequencing is to cut down bandwidth, I think the latter
is, though it's not very clean approach, more reasonable.
