At XMPP Summit 6 we talked about defining a method to "decloak" for purposes of initiating a session. One approach might be for the initiator to send directed presence to the responder's bare JID with a special annotation; this notification would be delivered to all of the responder's resources, and if a resource replies with directed presence (including the decloak notation) then the initiator knows that it can start a session with that resource. Another approach would be to use message stanzas (perhaps of type headline). If people are still interested in this, I could write up a short proposal about it.
