hi people, now is time to test if everyone is on the mailing list
i'm also sending directly to your adress in case something isn't working. i'm happy to get things started with lots of new faces here :) I've had two propositions to try to organize a bit the upcoming chaos ;-) - meet on irc I suggest thursday 6 at 21h (utc+1 = france, deutschland,...), 17h argentina on freenode (irc.debian.org) channel #starlane several people already told me it was ok for them so I hope it can be ok for you too. - build a wiki somewhere php is disabled on gna, so we will need to find a server somewhere else here is the current status of the game, but this is of course only my point of view and I would be happy to hear the point of view of everyone game status : what is already done ? ------------------------------------ - almost all reverse engineering : fonts, video, txt and most images are extracted - main engine (time synchronisation, basic widgets) - intro playback game status : who is "working" on it ? ------------------------------------ by now 5.5 people ;-) welcome newcomers ! me (wagner frederic) i'm currently a phd student in computer science i can take care of both the code and the music spider (mario diehl) : code dgtl_magician (Gert-jan de Boer) : code konrad klotzke : gfx, story Pablo Nicolás Núñez Pölcher : code (opengl ?) kernel_panic (fersing boris) : beginner in code, but any help is welcomed the idea is that everyone should do something that interests him no one will be forced to do something he doesn't like, and I fully understand if someone is sometimes busy with real life game development : what is still left to do ? --------------------------------------------- *code* - allow higher resolutions than 640x480 - add a script language (to script the interface, the game rules, ...) i thought of using lua - switch to opengl for 3D (starmap, battlefield, science tree) and 2D (images resizing + speed) - think of a way to integrate game extensions in the ascendancy interface : for example, ascendancy lacks the ability to allow the player to script his actions. after you control a certain amount of planets you have to spend a lot of time doing the same actions everywhere. it would be cool to allow the player to write his own lua scripts during the game :) - design a system to load different graphics sets eventually defaulting to a graphic set if an image is missing in one - find a good way to handle translations - most of the game is still left to code *gfx* - design and draw new interfaces gfx - new races, new sciences ? *zik* - races soundtracks - main game soundtracks - sound effects *scenario* - good races ideas (races from known sci-fi books ?) - good sciences ideas - think of a campaign ? *web* - put a wiki in place somewhere open discussion : what sould we or not do ? ------------------------------------------- - network : network is something that could be valuable but it may be tricky to implement because each player doesn't necessarily plays each turn - software : should we use entirely opengl, or keep a software mode ? that's it. I hope to see you all on thursday ! see you Fred -- Why fear computers ? They don't byte !
