First, check www.roxio.com to see if the drive is supported by Toast and
what version of Toast is required. You may be in the same boat with these as
with the Philips drive (see below)

I know for a fact that this drive will not work in a StarMax. I tried it
myself. Basically, this is one of the few drives that won't work on any Mac
no matter what. It would be recognized by my G4, but would fail every burn.
My StarMax didn't even recognize it.

Personally, I think Sony and Yamaha drives tend to be the most
Mac-compatible. I currently have a Sony 8/4/32 CRX-140E drive hooked up to
my StarMax and a Sony 12/8/32 CRX-160E hooked up via Firewire to my G4.
