Actually, Apple pressed a ton of the 8.5 OS CDs. The problem is
that with the 8.5.1 and 8.6 updates it is the most stable and popular
non-current OS version. A year after OS 9 was introduced, an 8.5 OS
box was still retailing for $99 - and most actions on eBay were
approaching that price. With the OS 9.1 update, the price for 8.5
is dropping now that a more current and as stable replacement version
is available. Watch eBay, Deal Mac, and Deal NN.
