I've been trying to install an internal SCSI hard drive in my StarMax 3000/240. Unfortunately, I haven't had much success with the installation; I'm getting some pretty wicked system freezes and crashes. I believe that I've narrowed my problems down to the SCSI ribbon and the infamous Motorola SCSI upgrade kit.
My StarMax came with a Supplement Booklet that said: "With this release of the StarMax, you have the option of installing an internal SCSI drive. A SCSI cable is installed in the computer and a SCSI terminator is included ...". I always figured that what this meant was that Motorola had installed the SCSI upgrade kit, but I'm beginning to wonder now. My StarMax has a multi colored ribbon with one end attached to the back panel of the computer and the other end is attached to a SCSI ribbon with multiple connections which in turn is attached to the motherboard. Yesterday I came across a web site that supposedly shows a picture of the Motorola SCSI kit (original ribbon vs. upgraded ribbon) that has me a little confused. So now I'm wondering what the heck this infamous kit looks like ... and as Motorola no longer fields any StarMax issues, if I really don't have the SCSI upgrade kit, can I get it from CompUSA? Also for those of you who have cracked open your StarMax, could you please link out to the following web site and tell me which of the two ribbons you have in your computer --- I'd especially like to hear from those of you who have ordered the Motorola SCSI upgrade kit.
