I visited a web site the other day about the Starmax which I found a
reference to on this list. I wish I had saved the URL for reference here. I
learned from it that of the 5 PCI slots on the SM tower the 3 PCI slots
farthest away from the motherboard are "bridged"  to the mb, and are ok for
network or USB cards but shouldn't be used for any video cards, which need
the fastest connection. Well, I had installed a Voodoo 3 card recently,
flashed the ROM to the Mac rom, and it works, but I didnt feel I got any
noticeable improvement with what I had used it for so far.  So after reading
this, I moved it to a slot closer to the mb (the 2nd slot) and lo and behold
the video animation at the beginning of The Sims now plays beautifully, w/o
hesitation, and I now saw parts on it I hadnt seen before. I'm sure it will
work well for other games too now. Thanks to all of you who share your
knowlege here and on websites!
