Here's what little i think i know >

Rom = read only memory.
The information that a manufacturer puts in the rom is referred to
as firmware.
Flashing the rom is sofware for changing/upgradeing the firmware.
Not all roms are flashable.
IE: A cdrom designed for a windows platform may/may not be flashable
to a mac platform.
