You have a couple of challenges you will need to address. 1) Your current HD is formatted as HFS. I've heard of 9.1 working fine in an HFS environment, but I've seen it react very badly to it also. It would be best if you reformat the HD you are going to install 9.1 onto as HFS+. This will require a full backup of all of your critical data. This includes your OS. But once you format the drive HFS+, you can't boot from your current OS. 2) The OS 9.1 installer won't run on an OS earlier than 8.6. This is a problem because the OS 9.1 CD won't boot on most of the OEM CD drives installed in StarMax computers. 3) Most of the programs you have probably wont work, or will have issues running under OS 9.1. It is a very long way from 7.5.3. I don't know what you are running, but you will need to check each program you are currently using to see if it needs to be upgraded to run under OS 9.1.
This is a big step up, you are moving up 2 big steps (8/8.1 and 8.6/9) in the OS ladder. You need to have enough memory (64 Meg minimum with 96+ preferred) and enough HD (the original OEM HD is slow compared to anything current.) >I have been searching for four weeks for information on how to >upgrade my starmax 3000.
