JC-- You will need to copy the extension "Apple CD-ROM 5.3.1" from your
OS 7.6 CD to the extensions folder of the OS 8.x system. Remove any
newer copy of Apple CD-ROM before putting this one in the folder. If you
need a copy, let me know privately, and I'll email you one.

Separately, I would recommend that you reformat to HFS+ & partition your
HD into several different ones ones before installing OS9.1 (use the
Drive Set-Up on the Install OS 9.1 CD). I have partitions titled System
9.1, Applications, Scratch Disk, Data Files, Back-Up System, etc. Boot
from the Install OS 9.1 CD and do the installation from it. Afterwards,
reboot and zap the pram (hold down continuously the command, option, P &
R keys until you hear 5 bongs), and if the new system doesn't boot-up
correctly then reboot & depress the option & command keys down to prompt
a desktop rebuilt.
