I did try Vuescan before I got the epson software to work. It does take alot of ram. I scanned a text document using both the Vuescan and the epson software and then printed them out. I found that the epson software created a much better looking scan, almost exactly like the original, while the Vuescan's scan looked almost like a very poor fax. Mind you I scaned both of these using the auto features. I did not make any manual changes to the setings. Who knows, maybe with some tweaking the Vuescan could look as good as the epson product.
