I still have a starmax power supply I bought to replace one I troubleshot as "dead". For those of us without a molten slag interior for the PS, the battery decline and wandering PRAM contents still give the illusion of a failed supply. If you have a power supply that stinks, by all means replace it. That's also a good time to test and replace the battery.
Is it that you want to be righrt--excuse me, RIGHT?
Statistically, the great unwashed world of SM's need more batteries that supplies.
Power supply companies should send a finder's fee to battery companies.

A few days without AC power can push a tired battery over the edge too.
He took the top off the supply. IT smells like fried things.
first step is STILL change or test the battery and press the cuda.
Uhh, Mike, you wanna be RIGHT or you wanna be helpful?
The power supply IS most assuredly damaged to the point that it's replacement is a must. After surviving a power surge, it blew it's 110/220V selector switch clean off the rear of the power supply.
Physical damage that will eclipse anything helpful that would come from checking the battery and pressing the cuda.
