Hit And Miss.

I have a 540M IDE's semi-cooked and bagging-out. Only works
with default jumper settings. Won't let a slave or master setup
work. (Apologies to the Los Angeles County Unified School District.)

I also have a flakey 1.6 gig with damaged sectors that's holding a
load of Windows 95 very civilly.

OTOH, two Macs of mine contiain MAxtors of the one gig variety, and I've
had zero faults after 6 years of recreational use.
