Here is a weird battery story. Maybe someone can suggest what's goimg on.
Twice, I replaced the battery on my SM 5000 250, vintage 1997. And each
time, it fell out-- or was pushed.

Here's the narrative. I unplugged a lot of things, and I pulled the
motherboard out just far enough so that my wife's smaller hand could push
the new battery down on the metal prongs and then press down on the velcro.

With the machine lying on its side with the cover off, I did the following:
I replaced all the things I had pulled out and shoved the MB back in. I
plugged in the power cord and held down the CUDA button until I heard the
p-ram chime 3 or 4 times. Then I attached the monitor and the mouse &
keyboard and was happy to see the parade of extensions and the request to
reset time & date. I put the cover back, turned the SM upright, tried to
launch -- and all the symptoms of a failed battery. When I pulled the MB
out, I discovered that the battery had fallen out.

So I did everything over again. But this time, after I heard the p-ram
start-up, I peeped in and I saw that the battery had lifted up, exposing the
metal prongs, and was about to fall out again. This occurred while the
machine was still on its side, cover off.

Three possibilities occur to me (1) my wife is not pressing down enough (she
says she pressed it very hard completely in place); (2) some vibration or
electronic event is causing the battery to lift up; (3) I'm doing something
wrong.

Maybe someone can suggest a solution before I try for the 3rd (and last!)
time.
