This sounds right. The battery leads are long and it's impossible to loop
them given the position of the battery -- it's barely visible,

But about disconnecting *all* the wires -- I have disconnected everything I
can see -- the 4 power plugs, the wide ribbon things, the small plugs for
fan, etc. I can't see what's preventing the m-board from sliding all the way
out. Should I unscrew the 4 screws at the other end also?

I want you all to know that I appreciate the generous help you've offered. I
just hate to put the good old Starmax out on the street on trash day just
because of a little battery problem. (I'm 75 and in good health -- maybe I'm
taking this personally.)
