First off, many thanks for your input on this matter.
As far as I can tell, you're right on the money in stating the bus speed of this machine.

As for the OS I'm running on this machine, it's a little hard to tell, as it's running without a monitor; as a 'headless mac'. Essentially, I access it through my network, and by selecting the 'finder' icon for it in my other machines' desktop, it tells me it's running OS 9. - at least according to this method.
So, can you or anyone else on this mail-list tell me if this machine will support this Western Digital, 120 GB hard drive?

More to the point would be the bus speed (40MHz, I think in the case of the 3000). You would not get full speed from a drive capable of 10,000 RPM that would run on at 166 bus. A drive spinning 7200 RPM would be sufficent.
I have three drives, a 4.5 GB, 9.5 GB and 60 GB in my StarMax MT/5000.
Your 3000 should easily handle a 40 GB drive.
I need to upgrade the HD in my Starmax 3000/160, and am wondering if anyone knows what the largest capacity of HD I can install ... ...snip... for it. I'm hoping to go to at least a 40 gig drive, but would prefer to max it out to the largest HD this machine can take.
