Bill,
Someone else can be more definitive about the number of Gigs, but I think it is more dependent on the OS, rather than the machine. I remember reading the numbers and dismissed the maximum as far beyond what I might ever get. I vaguely recall the maximum partition size being 260 GB for OS 8.6. (I'm open to correction.)

More to the point would be the bus speed (40MHz, I think in the case of the 3000). You would not get full speed from a drive capable of 10,000 RPM that would run on at 166 bus. A drive spinning 7200 RPM would be sufficent.

I have three drives, a 4.5 GB, 9.5 GB and 60 GB in my StarMax MT/5000.

Your 3000 should easily handle a 40 GB drive.

I need to upgrade the HD in my Starmax 3000/160, and am wondering if
anyone knows what the largest capacity of HD I can install ...
...snip...
for it. I'm hoping to go to at least a 40 gig drive, but would
prefer to max it out to the largest HD this machine can take.
