In the File Sharing CPs (of each machine)
. . . I found that having different names for
the owners of each machine helped me once.

Go Apple Menu --> Control Panels --> Appletalk
a dialogue box will ask you if you want Appletalk made active
(yes) select the connection port.

Then go to the Chooser.

Remember later, that you can't print with Appletalk active
if Appletalk is using the Printer port.
