Hi Folks,

Is there any processor in the upgrade path of a Max 3000
besides a G3 card . . . like a 604e or a 604?

Any leads on where to find a used G3 card . . .
besides the Mac Swap list?

My first Starmax was a 3160 or 3000/160, the 160 being the mhz of the 604e processor. Faster 604e exist, 200 was also common, but the Starmax cpu is soldiered to the motherboard, so all the upgrades are via cpu cache card slot. I am not really sure what the upper limit was, maybe 300. The G3 upgrades though are about twice as fast as the clock speed would indicate, for example a G3/250 would be faster than a 604e/450 in actual program execution speed.

The Starmax has four basic areas to upgrade;

Memory, some like to max it at 160 MB, but 96 MB is a good cheap amount.
Hard Drive, newer drives are larger, and much faster due to things like caches.
Video Card, all of the video card upgrades are MUCH faster than using the onboard video, and this upgrade has the most it sure feels faster to it.
G3 cpu, not only gives a nice boost to almost all actions, the G3 is more compatible with some newer software.

A great place to ask for or offer Starmax items is right here on this list. If nobody here has what you need, then maybe ebay.

Also when talking upgrades its a good idea to tell us what you want to do that you can't or can't easily do now.
