The famous one is using a version of Norton intended for HFS (Macintosh Standard) discs, on an HFS+ (Macintosh Extended) disc. HFS+ was introduced in Mac OS 8.1, and anyone who got a Mac from then after, or formatted a drive as HFS+ under 8.1, and used Norton on it got their drive toasted. Oops. Not heard of any other Norton problems related to OS issues, though. Incidentally I know of a Windows/*NIX techie who confirms the wisdom of Disk Warrior's approach (read all the data from the disc and piece that together away from the live disc) over Norton's (try to make fixes one at a time to a broken disc where none of the file system data is reliable and is not safe to be worked from live) -- he takes an identical approach in Windows with a program equivalent to Disk Warrior. I'm still very reluctant to use Disk Warrior as I just don't trust it, but it's very well thought of, and Norton tends to get bad opinions.
