Hello All,

I have the above old computer, and am failing in my efforts to get it to recognize two 64 MB chips that I've installed.

According to the 'LowendMac' web site, of the three available slots, the first one will only recognize a certain size of chip. I think this slot max's out at 32 MBs. This also seems to be accurately indicated on the motherboard.

So while leaving the presently installed 16 MB chip in this first slot, I've installed 64 MBs into each of the two remaining slots.

Even though I've properly carried out the RAM configuration, after booting up the machine still fails to access these other two 64 MB chips. The 'About this Computer' window still indicates it only has 16 MBs of memory?

I've depressed the reset button on the mother board, both when powered and turned off, and yet it still doesn't recognize these two new chips?

Any ideas as to what I can do to get this machine to properly work with these chips?

For what it's worth, the following is printed on these newly acquired memory chips:

Compaq 228469-081

Another sticker reads: Compaq, and beneath the bar code is printed: 0V97C407HNJ, and on the other chip, the same is printed with the exception that beneath its' barcode it reads: 0V97C407HNI

Other than the voltage requirements of this new memory not being provided for by this machine, I've can't think of why this memory shouldn't work with this machine. I've been assured that this is good memory.

Cheers,

Bill
