Yes, this was a problem if you were using the OEM drive as it was not an "Apple ROM'd" drive. What we are talking about here is replacing the CD-ROM with an Apple drive.

If memory serves... ?

Wasn't there a problem with using Apple's CD Extensions that were newer than System 7.5.3 when using a SCSI CD in the StarMax? I seem to recall that I had to replace the driver both when I upgraded to 8.5 and then 9.1. I remember having to use TomeViewer to extract the drivers from a System 7.5 CD.

If time and events have distorted my memory I would enjoy being enlightened.

Ruffin,
For the price of mailing, I have an external SCSI drive that you can have. Let me know.

Actually swapping in an Apple SCSI CD-ROM was one of the better upgrades I did to my StarMax. In addition to allowing me to mount a second IDE HD, the standard Apple CD driver now worked and any retail OS 8.1-9.1 CD is 'C' key bootable.

Okay, there's been just enough traffic about a SCSI drive that I'm going to throw netiquette to the wind and ask -- without checking the archives! -- what are some good donor boxes (or other sources) for finding SCSI CD drives?

Thanks,
