First, thanks to all who responded to my cry for help. I tried everything that
was suggested, to no avail. Unfortunately, the machine teased me by allowing me
to almost completely reload the software, but it finally gave up the ghost. I
am currently booting with the La Cie hard drive. I got all my wife's important
school data onto a Zip disk and now she can take that to school and load it on
to one of their old Macs and burn a CD. That problem is solved. However, I hate
to give up on this old "friend". It has served me well these 10 years. While I
do most of my work on my G4 running Tiger, The Starmax still has a nice Sony
19" monitor, a recent Epson printer, a Microtec scanner, the Zip Drive
mentioned above, and of course, the La Cie external hard drive. I had been
considering upgrading the Starmax for the past couple of years, so I guess now
is the time. Now that I have spent so much time inside the box, I feel
confident that I can do this. However, when I check things out, I can't figure
out if I need a new hard drive plus the upgrade card to a G3, or will the G3
card accomplish what I need. Common sense tells me that some sort of drive is
necessary. Can someone tell me which products will serve me best to do this
upgrade? Thanks, again.
