Star Trek Nemesis
SECTION31.COM : History of the Domain

Tim Hansen purchased the Section31.com domain name in 1998 after having
viewed the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Inquisition". It was the
first time the organization known as Section 31 was mentioned in Star Trek.
Previously the website had been hosted on the free service Geocities (1997).
Section31.com has had its share of exclusive content to share with Trekkers
since 1998. Some of the most notable features include offering fans the
chance to download cut footage in various video formats from the seventh
Trek feature film titled Star Trek: Generations, articles featuring images
and confirmed details regarding cut footage from other TNG cast Star Trek
films, the first fan site to offer hands on previews new Star Trek video
game titles like Elite Force and Star Trek Armada, the first to tell fans
about the upcoming sequel to EF >>> Elite Force 2, images of major arc
episodes before they aired (notably Voyager's "Endgame" and Enterprise's
"Shockwave"), a first glimpse of the Star Trek Nemesis trailer before it
debuted online, and much more. In addition, Section31.com has been updated
on an almost daily basis with Star Trek news and features a vibrant bulletin
board community, episode reviews, episode guides, a database of information
regarding characters, races, cast, and production staff, and dedicated
coverage to the new film coming in December 2002 Star Trek Nemesis, and the
newest Star Trek series Enterprise.

Section31.com's current dedicated server contract is due to end within a
matter of weeks, or possibly less. Liquid Web, our hosting service, has yet
to respond to my inquiry regarding the state of this domain's contract so a
definite date is not known for certain at the time of this story. Due to the
lack of sufficient revenue through donations and advertising I am not going
to re-new services with Liquid Web or seek out new hosting options for this
website. The advertising you have seen, along with requests to support the
domain by donating through Paypal or through special offers from companies,
was all meant to raise enough money to keep the site going. Unfortunately we
did not receive the support needed. This decision is not being made solely
based on a financial basis.

During the last year of this website's service to the fans of Star Trek, I
have had to consider the dedication, time, and commitment this domain
demands. Most people may or may not be aware of this but this website began
as a college project, evolved into a fan favorite, and then into a business
in the last year (according to various individuals). Having this website
evolve into a money making business was never an intention when I began work
on creating a unique place for Star Trek fans to find interesting news on
the TV series and feature films. It was meant to be a fun hobby, but events
in the last year have sucked out the enjoyment of creating this website.
Many issues have come into play during the last year, some site related, and
some personal, that made me consider why I was still dealing with
unnecessary stress and grief over what was supposed to be an enjoyable
activity. I've come to the decision that there are other priorities in life
and they should definitely take precedence over a website hobby dedicated to
a franchise of TV series and films. Therefore this site will be closing down
when Liquid Web terminates our contract.

The future of the domain (www.section31.com) is something I'm still thinking
about. I currently own the Section31.com name until August 18, 2006. I am
considering a couple of options at this time, one of those being a 'passing
of the torch' to someone capable of maintaining the quality of work that has
been going into the site since 1997, and the other is of course selling off
the domain. No decision has been made in this regard at this time. If you
are SERIOUSLY INTERESTED in purchasing this domain or just taking over the
site you should SUBMIT A FORMAL OFFER and a RESUME OF WEBSITE CREDENTIALS.
