Go through the standard "join" button on the group's page and put in
your account's webfinger; that'll send you back to your site to confirm
the subscription. Or, paste the group page URL into the remote join
dialog on your end.

The primary remote subscription/group join interface within StatusNet is
driven from the profile/group page, using webfinger to refer back to
your own account.
