Hey,
A few months back I had checked out Tom's new-ngc-catalog branch. I have
made a few changes to it and fixed a rendering bug in the original.
I think it is good enough to be included in the next release. I have merged
it with the current trunk and tested it on my laptop.
If the permissions for the new catalog are in place, I think it would be a
good idea to include it in the new release.
More features can be then added subsequently. You can pull most files from
here: https://code.launchpad.net/~chiraag-juvekar/stellarium/dso
I have not included the 2 data files for the new catalog since I am not
clear about the license.
