Hello! I want to work on Stellarium for ESA Summer Of Code. Although I'm not an avid star-gazer, I like the software. I loved the interface. I have used C++ with QT for GUIs before, although small projects, but nothing of this scale, interface is really good. Just that the dialogs don't go away when another is opened. I think that when one is open, other should close, otherwise overlapping transparent windows don't look good. I spent some time on the ideas page, and I liked all the ideas.
But, as of current implementation Idea #2 (Irregular Solar System bodies) needs to be implemented. I use v0.11.4, and Phobos looks pretty unrealistic (as suggested in the idea page as well). But I've never worked with OpenGL before. Do I qualify? I can learn it, depending on how much do I need to learn in the time before project starts. Also Idea #3 is pretty interesting (nomenclature for bodies of Solar system). Some software out there already do that, not of all the bodies though, Moon, Mars mostly. But one thing to ask, how will the mapping of labels should take place? I mean, should all the bodies in user's FOV, at a certain zoom level, should show up features, then as user zooms in, show nearer to surface details? Or user selects a body first, then details show up? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Accelerate Dev Cycles with Automated Cross-Browser Testing - For FREE Instantly run your Selenium tests across 300+ browser/OS combos.
