The "Lives of the Artists" is, as you say Alan, readable
and informative about how artists were trained in 15th
century Italy. There is also a thin paperback that
might be interesting to people - written I think by
Michael Baxandall about 15th Century painting and
architecture. The book shows how commissions were
costed and how the architecture of churches was related
through mathematics to octave scales in music. I have a
copy of this lurking somewhere and will try to look out
the copy to get the correct title.
Was The "Agony and the Ecstacy" made into a film
starring Kirk Douglas? I seem to remember watching this
many years ago.
