Great idea,hope you make it happen!
My experience of this kind of thing comes from being a sculptor mainly
working in limestone.
I was an invited artist at a stone carving symposium in Estonia 2 years
ago, it lasted 1 week and meals, a place to sleep and wash (all fairly
basic) and materials were included plus money towards the cost of the
flight. The profile of the exhibition was quite high; guy that ran it had
sponsorship from the city council (Tallin) and a quarry firm and tool hire
company, their input covered all the costs - I think. Artists were from
Estonia, Bylorussia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and myself.
This was a really good experience and if you're going to do something I
think you would need to arrange it so that those basics were laid on in
your country, otherwise the logistics get pretty heavy.
I've just curated a sculpture exhibition here in the UK, 20 artists showing
work for 6 weeks, so I've experienced both sides artist/exhibitor and
curator. The main thing to do is plan a year or so in front and get as many
useful (political and business) people to sponsor you as possible. Its
great when it is up and running.
