Dear Deborah,
Speaking as an obsessive hammer collector, I can tell you that you can never
have enough hammers and mallets. I like a wooden mallet I made from oak.
Dogwood makes a very good mallet. It dosen't split. I like the mallet when
I'm doing very delicate work. When roughing out or working of hardstone I go
with a 2 or 3 pound steel hammer.
