The court has not yet ruled on several initiatives questioning the constitutional legality of the contentious decree, passed by the Yugoslav government Saturday, paving the way for the extradition of ex-strongman Slobodan Milosevic. Among others, the deposed Yugoslav president Milosevic's lawyers, his Socialist Party of Serbia and a group of 51 law professors in Belgrade have all filed separate petitions. Federal Justice Minister Momcilo Grubac launched the extradition procedure against Milosevic, wanted for crimes against humanity that security forces allegedly committed in the 1999 Kosovo war, on Monday. Djindjic said Tuesday that the procedure takes "around 10 days", though he earlier hinted that Milosevic might be extradited as early as Friday. Djindjic is one of the most outspoken supporters of extraditions among leaders of the DOS alliance. Another one in his camp, Serbian Justice Minister Vladan Batic, said that Yugoslavia, as a UN member state, does not need any special regulation to apply the statute of the tribunal. The United Nations established the tribunal for war crimes in former Yugoslavia with a Security Council resolution in 1993.
