The other potential gotcha here is that setting fp_offline_ticker too low can cause unnecessary failover attempts. Generally, though, James is correct that these values should very rarely need to be changed. With that said, if you do tune the value too low, you trade one potential set of problems for another, and those problems may not be immediately evident.
