I reckon that this would make the most of this array. I have noticed a great difference in performance with a reduced number of drives in RAID 5. At the moment I am forced to creating two RAID 5 volumes (6 x 400 and 3 x 400), it is not only about the loss of one drive, the performance also is not good enough ( 40 Mb/s and 25 Mb/s against 60-80Mb/s that I would get with the whole array in RAID 5). If I had the code I would be very happy to help with this job. Could it be released as open source? Should that be a problem I would be happy to sign a non disclosure agreement, if the product can be made available to everyone.
