Hi all, I have those 3 old machines : - a E450( Quadri-UltraSPARC-II @ 480 MHz 4 Go ram) 18 disks 36GB + 2 disks 18GB - a V880 ( Quadri-UltraSPARC-III @ 750 MHz 8 Go ram) 6 disks 73GB FCAL - a V65x ( Bi-Xeon @ 3.06 GHz 6 Go DDR-266-ECC) 4 disks de 146 GB + 2 disks 72 GB
I would like to install solaris 10 11/06 and create a zfs storage pool on each server. Each server will act as nfs server serving 20 clients. The storage will be mostly used for archival purpose, exept for the V65x which will be used to serve EDA software tools to the nfs clients. Basically, I will use two disks in mirror within svm for the os, and the other disks for the pool. On the E450 I use the two 18GB for the os, and do a mirror for the 18 others 36GB disks zpool create tank10 \ mirror c0t1d0 c2t1d0 \ mirror c0t2d0 c2t2d0 \ mirror c0t3d0 c2t3d0 \ mirror c5t0d0 c4t0d0 \ mirror c5t1d0 c4t1d0 \ mirror c3t2d0 c4t2d0 \ mirror c3t3d0 c4t3d0 \ mirror c3t0d0 c5t2d0 \ mirror c3t1d0 c5t3d0 On the V880, I do a raidz pool for the 4 others 72GB disks zpool create tank20 raidz c1t2d0 c1t3d0 c1t4d0 c1t5d0 On the V65x, I do a raidz pool for the 4 others 146GB disks zpool create tank30 raidz c1t2d0 c1t3d0 c1t4d0 c1t5d0 What do you think of these configurations ? I know that the v65x is a 32 bits machine. Is it really a problem ? Any suggestions / advices are welcome.
