Hi, thanks for the answer, but I'm afraid the problem seems to lie elsewhere :)
mount tells me the following: /var/run on swap read/write/setuid/devices/xattr/dev=4cc0003 on Sun Mar 2 17:57:25 2008 and df -h this: swap 941M 36K 941M 1% /var/run Running idmap with -d as root tells me: idmapd: Initial configuration loaded Error creating database /var/run/idmap/idmap.db (unable to open database: /var/run/idmap/idmap.db) Error creating database /var/run/idmap/idmap.db (unable to open database: /var/run/idmap/idmap.db) Error creating database /var/run/idmap/idmap.db (unable to open database: /var/run/idmap/idmap.db) Failed to initialize db /var/run/idmap/idmap.db idmapd: unable to initialize mapping system Or are there any other limits? Free main memory lies between 40 and 80 Mbytes. I don't want to make more trouble than its worth. It is just a home server happily streaming music in the house. But I find the prospect of using smb very interesting. It will be no problem to wait for another build to fix this, but I'm happy to hear more suggestions. I administer a few linux servers at work but I'm starting to love some of the solaris features more and more.
