Hi Sumit,

I understand the business logic of going forward with the qla24xx and up
MultiID firmware releases. Unfortunately this will handicap the community
participation in testing and exploration of the COMSTAR project. Many shops
would be interested in reusing the existing 23xx FC adaptors to create targets
in the dev and test worlds and also to build proof of concept environments. The
ability to use the older adaptor becomes an enabler on the interest side where
the IT shops do not need to invest much to get involved and this can bring the
level of acceptance and promotion to a highly productive state and that makes
the isp2312 device development effort very worth while. Sometimes business
driven decisions are not optimal to emerging technologies.

I have some limited skills in with C and when looking at the Solaris snv_90
code it does appear to be possible to include a isp2312 chip without a rewrite
since the qlt driver is interfaced with the mailbox method.

It appears to be some registers, speed and the firmware address range issue
that would need modification.

Without having access to the qlogic development docs or source it is hard to
see the full range of issues.

The 2300 series of adaptor was very popular and is in good supply out there. It
would be a real win for the community if we could convince management to the
hidden benifits of it's inclusion.

Thanks

Mike
