I've just hit exactly the same problem, but didn't realise it had been posted in storage. I've posted in the ZFS forum already, and added a comment to a post filed under the bugs forum.
My ZFS post: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=67397&tstart=0 The bugs post by Tommy Odom: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=261204&tstart=0 It seems that Solaris locks up when a SATA drive is pulled when using the Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 controller. I've found that plugging the drive back in brings the system back to life (even 10 minutes later), but after doing that I couldn't get ZFS to recognise the drive again without a reboot. I suspect this is fixable, and possibly a driver issue as from what I've read this controller uses the same chipset as the Thumper, and I find it hard to believe that server would lock up if a drive failed. Can anybody advise on how to fix this?
