Additionally the iSCSI related packages(both initiator and target) are not in the .iso.

Meta-packages would certainly be helpful. However, if the storage packages are needed during boot/installation, the problem will arise if the packages are not in the .iso. Taken the iSCSI boot as an example.

Hopefully at least the initiators(not limited to iscsi) will be added back to the next opensolaris release.

There is a distinction between what's in the iso and what's in the repostiory. Not every package is installed by default. I guess it might be time to update some documentation on the project page, etc to make this clear.

The other thing we've done to make things simpler is to create a few meta-packages/clusters for NAS and all storage packages. This simplifies the install for storage type developers. We could potentially provide more of these in the future.
